Jack T. Hammer

Jack T. Hammer, born in Harrow-on-the-Hill, Middlesex (1969).

His first attempts at poetry were rap revival of old English masters. He almost made the Guinness
book of records with his non-stop rendition of Percy Bysshe Shelley’s The Revolt of Islam.

In 1999, he moved to Iceland where he joined a group of post punk slam poets. The four other members
of the group, Erik Erikson, Dagmar Kröyer, Vigdis Landaursdottir and Ulf Asgrimurson, liked his style
so much that they unanimously decided to add the H at the beginning of their group’s name Ekla, giving
it the name of one of the biggest local volcanoes, mount Hekla. He is famous for his collection of blue
pebbles collected in the bed of rivers running down from the glaziers to the ocean.

He currently spends his time painting erotic cyber-art for a living, and writing what
he calls his weekend poems in his spare time.

Jack T. Hammer

Shelley The Revolt of Islam,(4995 vers).

Freeze

I See teens in a trance
Taken one by one by the tricks of freedom
Until they reach a global numbness
They dance they say but do not move
There is no sway to be seen
"We come", they say, "to freeze your fantasy",
A herd of nerds, "We feed on technology!"

A dome of lead, a sheath of gleam
As if a robe of silence had fallen upon their heads
Nerves of steel in camouflage suits and ties
They dance they say but do not move
There is no ball to be had
"We come", they say, "to swipe the rug from under your feet",
A rowdy crowd, "We live dangerously!"

Did they freeze there against their will?
Were they driven to the core of such extremities
By seemingly sleeping fire in their heads?
They dance they say but do not move
They surf the wave of a glassy craze
"We come" , they say, "To wash your dreams away"
In our see-through cage "we live transparently"

Have they been paid or were they trapped
in such a hoax by unscrupulous folks
By seemingly sleeping spies?
Smuggling turf and pure mud
In the streets of hard cash city
They dance they say but do not move
There is no proof to be forged
"We come", they say, "to force your fears out of the way"
A sturdy bunch, "We're dieing to live , c’est la vie!"
